What is Solar PV?
Solar panel electricity systems, commonly referred to as photovoltaics (PV), harness the sun’s energy through photovoltaic cells. These cells are capable of generating electricity even in cloudy conditions, as they do not require direct sunlight to function. By converting sunlight into electricity, PV systems power household appliances and lighting efficiently.
How It Works?
PV cells consist of layers of semi-conducting material, typically silicon. When sunlight strikes the cell, it induces an electric current across these layers. The intensity of sunlight directly correlates to the amount of electricity generated. These cells are grouped into panels or modules, which can be installed either on rooftops or on the ground. The power output of a PV cell is measured in kilowatts peak (kWp), indicating its maximum energy generation capacity under full direct sunlight in peak conditions, typically during summer. PV cells are available in various shapes and sizes. While most PV systems utilize panels mounted on existing roofs, solar tiles are also an option for integration.
